The 50k-view post is making the whole report look good
Nine posts get 500 views. One gets 50,000. The average is 5,450. Would you use that number to plan the next batch?
Our take ↳
We wouldn’t plan around 5,450. It’s a correct average and a poor description of what usually happened in this example. The median is 500; the breakout supplies about 92% of all views. That’s a very different starting point for a budget conversation.
Keep both numbers. Then pull up the breakout next to an ordinary post and look for a difference you can actually test: the opening, the product moment, the audience it speaks to. “Make another viral one” isn’t a brief.
One caveat: public views won’t tell you which post brought paying customers. If you can see the path to purchase, add it. If you can’t, leave that cell unknown. Don’t make the most exciting video carry a revenue claim it hasn’t earned.
